When I think back on this beautiful family session, I am reminded how important and special my job as a photographer really is. When Rochelle first contacted me about doing a family session, she told me that her father-in-law wasn’t well and how she would love to have a laid-back backyard photoshoot of her family and dogs all together. I loved the idea and after I saw how beautiful her backyard was, I couldn’t wait for their session! A few days before their session I was notified that her father-in-law was admitted to the hospital. I was so worried that we might not be able to capture these portraits in time. Luckily, our session went on as planned. It was a hot, humid and cloudy Florida summer day, but everyone was a trooper and we had a great time. They love to paddle board in the lake behind their house, so we incorporated that into their shoot. Their dogs were awesome models and I was shocked I was able to get all of them to look at the camera at the same time! Soon after the session, I was sad to hear the news that her father-in-law passed away. I feel so honored to have had the opportunity to take these very special portraits for their family. As I hold my own grandparents photos close to my heart and cherish them dearly, I know that this family will do the same for years to come. It’s a reminder to everyone to not wait. Grandparent sessions are my favorite and it’s best to do them now, when they are doing well. You want to have photos that will capture how you want to remember them and how you want future generations to see them. As I always say, “If you don’t think photos are important, wait until they are all you have left.”
