Happy Valentines Day Everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! For Valentines Day this year, I decided to bake some yummy treats for my valentine! As they say, “the way to a mans heart is through his stomach.” My Valentine loved these treats, as well as his roommates who scarfed them down within one day. My valentine loves rice krispie treats, so I decided to make him red velvet cake rice krispie treats with a homemade butter cream frosting, in heart shapes. I then made some red velvet cake balls with sprinkles. As a photographer of course I had to photograph them! Here are some of the photos as well as the recipes if you are interested in giving them a try! They both came out amazing! Enjoy!
Heart Shaped-Red Velvet Cake Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 10.5 oz bag of mini marshmallows (the mini’s melt faster)
- 1/3 cup dry Red Velvet Cake mix
- 6 cups rice krispie cereal
- 1 can of frosting of choice or for homemade frosting: 1/2 cup butter or cream cheese (room temperature) mixed with 2 cups powdered sugar
- Heart shaped cookie cutter
Instructions:
- Line a 9 x 13 cake pan with foil and grease lightly with cooking spray. Set aside. (I used a 9 x 13 aluminum cake pan)
- In a large saucepan melt butter over low heat.
- Add marshmallows and stir until melted.
- Remove from heat and add in dry cake mix, stirring until mixed.
- Stir in rice krispie cereal and coat evenly with mixture.
- Pour mixture into prepared pan and press evenly. Let cool.
- If making homemade frosting- beat butter and powdered sugar together.
- Cut krispie treat sheet in half, so you have two equal portions, and spread the frosting on one of the portions.
- Place the other half on top and cut into hearts with a heart cookie cutter or cut into squares.
- Once I cut out all the hearts I could fit, I pushed together the remaining and continued to cut out hearts until there was no more treat left. I ended up with 12 heart treats.
Red Velvet Cake Balls
Ingredients
- 1 box red velvet cake mix
- 1 can cream cheese frosting (16 oz)
- 1 package chocolate bark (I used ghirardelli baking chocolate chips)
- wax paper
- 3 large eggs
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
- Cook cake following directions on box.
- After cake is cooked and cooled completely, crumble into large bowl.
- Mix thoroughly with 1 can cream cheese frosting.
- Roll mixture into quarter size balls and lay on cookie sheet.
- Chill for several hours or use your freeze to speed up the process. (Balls need to be frozen to dip) Warning: Once they start to thaw they begin to fall apart while coating!
- Melt chocolate in microwave per directions on packaging.
- Use a spoon to roll balls in chocolate and lay on wax paper until firm. I used tooth picks to dip my balls in the chocolate… didn’t work out that great.
- Sprinkle sprinkles on balls immediately. (chocolate gets firm fast)
